Holme-Grown Tomatoes, Herbs & Salads

Holme-Grown gets all its fresh Jersey Tomatoes, Herbs and Salads form our parent company, Fauvic Nurseries where all these are grown almost all year round in glasshouses tucked away around the back of the shop.
In fact, we have over 12 acres of glasshouses where we grow vine tomatoes for some UK supermarkets, producing over 3 million trusses from roughly 83,000 plants in a 9 month period!

Here are a few fascinating facts about our tomatoes..........

.........each tomato plant grows to 13 metres and if all were put end to end they would stretch from here to Istanbul!
.........each week 60,000 predatory bugs are put into the glasshouses to eat the pests!
.........for example, over the season 1.8 million Encarsia are released to eat the whitefly!
.........there are 2,000 bumble bees in the glasshouses at any one time!
.........these bees will pollinate over 50 million flowers during the season!
